ABOUT WATER EXERCISE
WHY PARTICIPATE IN GROUP AQUATIC EXERCISE?
Research has indicated that individuals who participate in group exercise classes are more likely to achieve their health and wellness goals due to increased motivation, new friendships, and accountability. Our water fitness classes are a perfect example of this. Retention is very high for these classes due to the bond the members have made with each other and with the instructors. Be part of our Y family!
HOW DO I GET STARTED?
Just show up wearing a comfortable swimming outfit. Bring a water bottle and a towel! Class equipment is provided. If you prefer to wear water shoes or gloves, please bring you own! Classes are included in memberships; no pre-registration required!

AQUATIC CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Ai Chi isis a simple water exercise and relaxation program in shoulder deep water performed using a combination of deep breathing and slow broad movements of the arms, legs and torso in flowing continual patterns. Music may be used by the instructor.
Fun aquatic patterns and movements fuse cardio and resistance training to provide an enjoyable water workout.
A combined shallow and deep water exercise class using water gloves, water buoys, noodles, and stabilization belts.
DEEP WATER FITNESS*
Moderate to high intensity. This class will take you to the deep end and take away the impact. Emphasis on cardio training and flexibility. Flotation belts are recommended but not required.
Gentle Aqua is a safe form of exercise for people with limited mobility and joint or muscle pain. The warmer water in our fun pool has a relaxing effect on the body and can decrease blood pressure, tension and pain and allows you to move and work at your own pace. This class includes a warm-up, slow mindful movement, balance, and stretching exercises. Swimming skills are not required.
SHALLOW WATER FITNESS
Class is taught in waist to shoulder deep water. Designed to increase cardio training, muscle strength, endurance and balance. No swimming ability is required. Water shoes are recommended.

FACILITY SWIM & PROGRAMMING

ADULT & SENIOR FITNESS
This is a time for adults (18 years+) and seniors to participate in their individual work out. No children permitted to be in any part of the pool during this time. This is a quiet workout time.
During this time the Fun Pool is reserved for AI CHI participants only. This is a quiet class time. The channel and zero entry pools will be closed during this exercise class time. Hot tub available for 18 years+ for quiet time.
This is a time for families to swim together. Parent must be in water and supervision required.
HOME SCHOOL P.E.
During this time the Fun/Lap pools will be reserved for the YMCA Home School P.E. program only.
This is a time for individuals of all ages to participate in their own quiet individual workouts without any pool toys. This time will be used for open swim during non– school days.
This is a time for lap swimming. We reserve the right to designate specific lanes for the YMCA programs as needed. We ask participates to respect the people and activities taking place in each lane. It is acceptable to swim in a lane alone or with a group. If applicable, swimmers with same speed need to circle swim. Lane lines will be in all designated lap swim lanes.
MASTERS SWIM $
During this time the entire Lap Pool will be reserved for the YMCA Masters Swim Team. There will not be any lanes open for member lap swim during this program time.
Open for anyone for fun swim. Please be advised the slide may not always be open during open swim. Please see slide hours to ensure the slide will be open during your visit. Deep end swim test is required for children who want to swim in the deep end.
During this time parents and preschool children may use the Fun Pool for water play and exercise. Parents must be in the water and within arm’s reach of their child. This time is designated for young children under 6 years old.
During this time the Fun Pool is reserved for the YMCA Preschool program.
SWIM LESSONS $
During this time the entire Fun Pool (and some Lap Pool lanes) will be closed for the YMCA Swim Lessons program. Quite time in the hot tub is allowed for adults 18 years and older.
SWIM TEAM $
During this time the Lap Pool is reserved for the YMCA Tiger Shark Swim Team.
WATER POLO $
During this time the Lap Pool is reserved for the YMCA Water Polo program. For safety, no other activities will take place in the Lap Pool during this program time.
WEST ALBANY TRANSITION PROGRAM
During this time the West Albany Transition program will use the Fun/Lap Pool. Individuals are welcome to share the pool while participating in individual water fitness with the West Albany
