Mentoring

If you have ever given any thought about becoming a mentor, now is the time.  The Y-Mentoring program of Linn County is seeking caring adults, aged 19 an over, to be a friend to a deserving youth. Volunteering just a few hours a week, can truly make a difference.  Just think about what you already do with your time and how you could involve a youth into those activities.  You’d be surprised at how easy it is to incorporate a youth into your life. Currently there are over 35 kids ages 8 through 17 referred to Y-Mentoring, who are waiting for an adult like you, to make a commitment and be an important part of their lives.  These kids aren’t looking for a hero or the perfect role model; sometimes all it takes is a good friend to make a difference.  Someone like you!

Don’t have a lot of extra time? Then consider becoming a Lunch Buddy! Forty minutes, once a week is all it takes to impact the life of a middle-school aged youth. It’s school-based, and you choose the day that works best for you. It’s a great way to experience the power of being a mentor that can easily fit into your schedule.  If you would like more information on how you could make a difference in the life of a youth, call Y-Mentoring at the Mid-Willamette Family YMCA. Build a friendship with a child and help build a better community!
