Lifeguard Certification
GAIN THE SKILLS TO SAVE A LIFE!
The Red Cross Lifeguard Blended Training Certification includes 19.5 hours of training in the pool and classroom, plus additional online learning of 7.5 hours for a total class time of about 27 hours. Online trainings must be completed prior to the start of the class.
COURSES INCLUDE:
- Lifeguard Training
- CPR/AED certification for the Professional Rescuer
- First aid certification
- Emergency oxygen administration certification
Certifications are good for 2 years.
LIFEGUARD COURSE PREREQUISITES
To enroll in this course, participants must be at least 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session. All candidates must successfully complete the following swimming requirements:
Swim-Tread-Swim Sequence
- Swim 150 continuous yards.
- Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs, with hands placed under the armpits.
- Swim an additional 50 yards.
- The swim-tread-swim sequence must be completed without taking a break.
Timed Event (Must be completed within 1 minute, 40 seconds)
- Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.
- Perform a surface dive—either feet-first or head-first—to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
- Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on your back while holding the object with both hands, keeping your face at or near the surface for breathing. Swimming underwater is not permitted.
- Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
All skills must be completed successfully and without rest to move forward in the certification process.
