TRAINER BIO

Dave's love for volleyball blossomed in 1987 when he became a middle hitter for Canyon High School in Southern California. Upon graduating from high school, Dave received a remarkable opportunity to play for UC Santa Barbara. Unfortunately, he suffered a car accident which left him incapacitated and unable to play while he underwent a recovery process. Despite this setback, he was determined to return to the sport he loved. In 1991, he made his comeback at Orange Coast College, this time as a right-side hitter. Simultaneously, he embarked on a journey to become a beach volleyball player, setting his sights on playing at the professional level. Dave's hard work paid off in 1994 when he and his Orange Coast College team achieved a remarkable feat by winning the state championship. The same year, Dave's talent and dedication caught the attention of Olympic scouts, leading to his selection for the Olympic Festival team, where he proudly took home a silver medal.

Despite life's challenges, Dave remained determined to excel in the sport that had captured his heart and soul. As life progressed and he started a family, Dave's passion for volleyball never left. In 2009, he founded DSK Volleyball at the YMCA, eager to share his knowledge and expertise with the next generation of athletes. His coaching acumen and vast experience helped propel the club to national recognition, and it soon became one of the leading volleyball clubs in Oregon and Washington. Dave's contributions to the sport have not gone unnoticed. Over the years, he has received multiple awards, including MVP and top All-League selections, highlighting his skills both as a player and coach. However, for Dave, volleyball has never been just a personal accolade; it's a conduit for transforming lives. He attributes his own success and the opportunities volleyball has granted him to the sport's impact on his life. With a selfless and giving spirit, Dave aims to "pay it forward" by guiding and inspiring the next generation of athletes, helping them find their own path in volleyball and life beyond. As he continues to mentor and shape young athletes, his legacy of dedication and the love for the game will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on the volleyball community.
